About Me

My photo
I live in Phoenix AZ, and have been working at the cable company since 1989, (I'll let you do the math...it depresses me too much!). I have a dog and a drum set at home that I play with/on regularly. Oh...and a computer. Duh... I shoot all Canon gear. Currently the 40D. I mainly focus on Glamour/Beauty/Artistic Nude photography, but I also love Event & Street photography!

I have been chastised...and I Liked It!

So, a few weeks ago I decided that I would start posting here on a more regular basis, but as you can see, that didn't happen. I for one am not surprised. I am a bit dissappointed in myself, but not surprised. I know how I am, and being consistant isn't one of my strong points. A big part of the reason is that I haven't been able to concentrate during the three or four times I made an attempt to write something of significance because I was at work at the time. Well, I am at work again and keep getting distracted by the conversations of my coworkers, but this time, I am determined not to let the distractions keep me from my appointed task! (Only Time will Tell if I am successful) If you are reading this message, then we all KNOW that the distractions were not sufficiant enough to prevent me from posting! However, if they DO stop me...heh...how would you know!?

And, on top of that, I was thoroughly chastised that I have been depriving someones entertainment and that I should get back to writing more often. Well well and well... So, for your entertainment, I now present a few minor ramblings coming from my mind.

The other day I was listnening to an NPR broadcast of Talk of the Nation. The show was about NaNoMo, or National Novel Writing Month. (BTW: Those are all different links. Try them all!)
The basic idea is this: the month of November is NaNoMo. People sign up to participate all during October. The goal is simply to write 50,000 words in 30 days, from November 1st thru Nov 30th. The thought being that quantity, not quality is the punch in the shorts that the aspiring novelist needs in order to break the barrier and get a manuscript out. All of the editing happens afterwards.

To accomplish this goal, a few recommendations given that should help to keep you on track. One is to write and write and write, without self editing yourself. (This, I think, would be one of the most difficult things for most people. Myself included) Another is to be sure to find a way/place to be uninterrupted when you are working. Also, they think that using friends and family to guilt you into working is a plausible thought. I don't think that would work for me personally, but the idea has merrit.

Since I didn't learn about NaNoMo until the later part of November, there isn't enough time for me to participate this year. But, with luck I will be able to do it next year. And, I have purchased the book "No Plot? No Problem!" and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival from Amazon so I can read it and get a headstart for next time. (This was the 6th annual NaNoMa.) Or, I could use it as an inspiration to do the project on my own! After all, why wait a whole year to spit out all the thoughts and story ideas that come to me over time?!

On a totally different thought: I was graciously invited to the movies last saturday by Cherry and Morgan and thier son. (He was down from Flagstaff for Thanksgiving.) The movie was Sideways. I had never even heard of the film before that night, but the logic was that they were paying for my ticket so why would I say no?! Besides, I have been wanting to get together with them for some time, and this was the opportunity we had all been waiting for! So, about Sideways: There were actors in it that I really like a lot! Paul Giamatti, Thomas Haden Church, Sandra Oh and Virginai Madsen. The story itself was the kind that just unfolds and sort of drags you along on a journey of discovery. Well, all I can say about the film is that all of the acting was fantastic, (I really like Paul Giamatti!) but I wish I knew what to expect going into it. I think that would have heightend my overall enjoyment of the experience. After the movie we went to a late dinner at Claim Jumpers. I love the way that place is decorated! And we all had a chance to talk about the movie, as well as other things. I would have to say that all in all, this was one of the better Saturdays I have had in a long time!

OK...well, it's not quite 50,000 words, but it is certainly more than I have written for some time now, so I think it's time to publish this and let my adoring fans bask in the glory of my latest rant. Yeah...right.
